The no. 1 most frequently asked question I get is, "Are you serious?" And I am here to emphatically tell you that yes, I am at least as serious as anybody else, and I just built this website to prove it.

Hello. I have not blogged in a while.

It’s springtime here in Ithaca, and I’ve had a lot of space to think and put down some ideas that have been banging around. As I was teasing apart a nasty bug in some JavaScript not long ago, I thought back to the times when that sort of thing was fun. I recalled the days when I was excited to solve problems because I’d get to tell people all about them.

Aha, I remembered, back when I blogged.

It is fun to write on the Internet, especially when you are passionate about something. I’ve always fancied myself a thinker and tinkerer, and I am more than narcissistic enough to want to tell people about it.

I do enjoy writing, most of all because it’s an opportunity to teach and to learn. I am a self-taught programmer, with no formal training or college education. I am perpetually thankful for the writers that make up the submissions to Hacker News, and get run through my Twitter feed, and publish their bare, freshly minted thoughts onto this beautiful monster of an internet we’ve built. It’s their pioneering that brought around the tutorials and papers and book recommendations that I drew inspiration from. I only exist because they were there first.

But I digress. Everybody’s doing it, so let’s blog.
